Sea Glass

Our
Sea
Glass

I use sea glass in the majority of my designs for a number of reasons; primarily is beauty and sustainability, but also because I really enjoy finding it!

I have handpicked all the sea glass that is used in my jewellery myself. They are sourced from beaches in the UK, mainly Dorset, Cornwall and County Durham.

What is Sea Glass?

Sea glass starts as regular man-made glass. This could be an old perfume bottle, a drinking glass or even a beer bottle. Somehow, the glass ends up in the ocean where it can stay for many, many years. The glass will be often be broken, and the shards will then be tumbled, smoothed, and frosted from the motion of the waves and the salt in the sea. The tide will then deposit the sea glass back onto the shore, where I will collect it, ready to turn into new jewels!

Is Sea Glass eco-friendly?

There is absolutely no mining of the earth required for the collection of sea glass. As sea glass is initially a man-made product, it is technically classed as 'waste' and means that it is completely legal to collect from UK beaches. It also means that collecting sea glass is cleaning up the beach- although I do tend to pick up any regular rubbish I find when I am on my sea glass hunting trips too!
