Ethical Statement
Conscious sourcing has always been a priority of mine when purchasing crystals. While I feel that most crystals are impossible to be 100% ethical due to the environmental impact, I do my utmost to ensure that they're as conscious as possible.
I work with UK-based suppliers, who are very highly regarded in the industry. These suppliers have a team who visit the workers and mines, monitor the working conditions of the employees, and the environmental impact.
I do have a couple of suppliers outside of the UK, and again do my best to make sure these are as ethical as possible. When advertised that they are ethical, I also ask the relevant questions to double check this. I will only purchase with them if I am happy they do not just use 'ethical' as a buzz-word.
It is important to note that the crystal industry is not regulated. Therefore crystals are very difficult to be 100% traceable. As I am not yet in a position to visit the mines and cutters personally, it does mean I have to trust both my UK and international suppliers.
Sustainability
For me, a conscious crystal shop carries this value throughout the whole business. Therefore, I have taken steps to try and be earth-friendly with my packaging
Reduce- for this primary aspect of waste management, I have to find the balance between reducing packaging, and ensuring all crystals are protected during transportation. This also means I do not include any extras that you may find in other businesses (e.g. stickers, plastic-wrapped sweets) to try and reduce wastage as much as possible.
Reuse- reusing packaging is better for the environment than purchasing additional eco-friendly packing materials. Therefore, my preferred packing option is re-using the bubble wrap and paper that is sent with my orders from my suppliers and personal packages. This does mean my packages aren't always 'plastic-free', but any plastic is always re-used materials.
Recycle- finally, any additional packaging that isn't re-used materials, is recyclable. I use cardboard boxes, paper packing tape and eco-friendly tissue paper. The tissue paper is made from 99% recycled pulp fibres, and pH neutral
