Ethics & Sustainability

Being earth-friendly is a core value here at Lilac Lakes. There are a number of aspects in which we try and reduce as much impact on the environment as possible.

Sea glass

Sea glass is the feature point for the majority of the jewellery I make. By its very nature, sea glass is possibly one of the most environmentally friendly parts of jewellery, which is one of the reasons why I love incorporating it! Sea glass is waste glass that has ended up in the sea, and is then smoothed and frosted by the waves and salt in the ocean. This is then washed up onto shore, which I am then able to collect! Therefore, absolutely no mining is needed, and no damage is being done to the earth or the sea. As sea glass is technically 'waste', it is allowed to be collected from beaches, and it also means that collecting sea glass is cleaning up our beaches and ocean waters.

Silver

All the silver I use is 100% recycled sterling silver. This silver is fully traceable however still of the same quality as silver that has not been recycled. In addition, I keep all the leftover silver from my designs, and repurpose this into embellishments and other jewellery designs.

Packaging

Packaging is another aspect that is important for being sustainable. No plastic is used in my packaging, and I try to keep it as minimal as possible. The tissue paper I use is made of recycled pulp fibres and the jewellery boxes are reusable and recyclable. I also use paper tape to secure each parcel.
